Tasting a whiskey like Glenfiddich 40 Years Old Single Malt from Scotland's Speyside can be a bit awe-inspiring, especially considering that you might not even be as old as 40-year-old Glenfiddich himself. 4 decades is almost half a lifetime and with such an age you have to pay respect to a bottling like the Glenfiddich Whiskey 40 years. Only a strictly limited number of 600 copies of this exclusive 700 ml bottle are filled each year, which are eagerly awaited by fans of the Glenfiddich brand every year. With individual numbering on each Glenfiddich 40 bottle, you get an absolutely unique product that has a different drinking strength from year to year.
Each bottle comes in a leather-covered box, which also contains a booklet (also leather-covered) with information about the bottling and the Glenfiddich Distillery in general. A signed certificate completes the content and testifies to the 40 years of maturity observed by many employees.
Glenfiddich Whiskey 40 Years - Making, Maturation and Taste
Even after 40 years, the distillery character of Glenfiddich is not drowned out by the storage in the specially selected oak barrels. One of the most popular single malt whiskeys in the world, Glenfiddich uses wood harvested in the forests of the Ozark Mountains between Arkansas and Missouri to mature its 40-year-old Scotch. After a fermentation of the raw materials in Douglas fir vats, which support the biological and chemical processes more naturally than a steel tank can, the freshly distilled New Make from Glenfiddich is filled into the special oak barrels. In the Glenfiddich 40 years, a few Portuguese and Spanish sherry casks are also used, which are intended to expand the flavor profile. The bourbon previously stored in the barrels, or
Every year at Glenfiddich, the malt master personally selects barrels in "Remnant Vatting" to add to the remains of the previous Glenfiddich 40 years to ensure consistently high quality. The selected casks must have reached the age of 40 years and be deemed worthy by the malt master to be allowed to flow into the Glenfiddich 40 years.
Color:Dark mahogany.
Nose:Dried fruits stand in a bond with dark chocolate, which combines with freshly roasted coffee and black cherries to create a wonderful melange. Burnt wood, polished leather and fine cloves are added to the nose.
Palate:Luxurious is probably the right term to describe this silky single malt. Dried fruit (dates and raisins) alongside fruitcake and stewed apple open up a tone of oak and dark chocolate surrounded by hints of peat.
Finish:Exceptionally long and of complex structure. You won't soon forget this single malt from Glenfiddich.
